Desktop Studies and Feasibility Reports

Overview of desktop studies
All-encompassing desktop studies and feasibility report service attuned to the exacting design project and client requirements, assessing the viability of the proposals.

What's included in our desktop study process?
Data collection
Comprehensive data collection and analysis including flood risk, UXO, gauging, signal sighting and historical record assessment
Site investigation
Site investigation visual and intrusive to assess the existing site topography, geotechnical and environmental status
Risk analysis
Identification of risks and hazards associated with the design proposals
What's included in our feasibility reports?
Technical requirements
Analysis of the desktop study findings to assess the technical engineering requirements
Environmental impact assessment
Assessment to identify any potential pollutant linkages to the development site
Noise impact assessment
Noise impact assessment of the development of the site in accordance with The Noise Policy Statement for England (NPSE), to promote good health and a good quality of life through the management of noise. Mitigation and minimising measures are documented
Ecological impact assessment
Site investigation visual and intrusive to assess the existing site topography, geotechnical and environmental status
Lightning protection analysis
Analysis of new infrastructure to protect the safety of the infrastructure and occupants via lightning strike frequency, risk analysis, identification of risk areas
Arboricultural Impact Assessment
If trees are present within the development zone an arboricultural assessment shall be required to assess the health, condition and management of trees
Breeding bird survey
In accordance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, as updated by the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, if any wild birds are present or nesting surveys are conducted to identify breeding bird communities and protected species to provide information on potential impacts
Utility report
Identification of findings from utility suppliers within the area of development
Natural England Invertibrate Assessment
Post-industrial site cross seasonal sampling report to detect any species of principal importance providing an invertebrate species inventory and inform mitigation strategies
Geo-environmental assessment
Assessment of geological and geotechnical aspects of the site to fully characterise the underlying ground conditions

“HEXAGON [formally Epsilon design] provided their services for a multidiscipline project at Machynlleth train care depot, the project was trialling a new design assurance process and required extensive engagement with one of our key stakeholders. Lisa and her team [at HEXAGON] were instrumental in producing an agreed Engineering Management plan that ensured relevance compliance. The team was very professional in delivering meetings/design reviews, and the level of detail was very high. Thanks to the due diligence of this, we have collaboratively delivered a project that all stakeholders are delighted with.”
Daniel Harper, Infrastructure Project Manager
